Got a call from my friend Dave today saying he's seen strange orange lights over Lake Ontario for the past three nights while out walking his dog. Last night he met a group of people who had been following the orbs all the way from Fairhaven (1 1/2 hours east from Rochester). One guy said he's been seeing them for years and that the sightings have been increasing quite a bit. A quick look on the web confirms that people from both sides of the lake (Canada and US) have been seeing these things for many years and one theory is that the aliens have an underwater station in the lake. Many have seen the glowing ufo's go straight into the water. Here's an old video of something similiar:
I will keep you posted on any more sightings!
Went to wait on the beach the other night with my friend Erica and after about 15 minutes we saw 5 orange lights way over to the west. They were all in a row, Two double orbs with one single one in the middle. All the same light intensity and very close together. After half a minute, one set of 1 turned south and disappered as did the other set, and then the single one faded away. It was VERY strange. Send me a comment if you've ever seen any unidentified flying objests in your lifetime...

Darjeeling Limited
Saw Darjeeling Limited last night. Certainly not as good as Wes Anderson's other movies but still way better than the predictable crap and nice to visit a bit of India for an hour and a half with three interesting characters. Somehow though, part of the story was missing. I think it's a curse sometimes to have a reputation because for a while you think you have to live up to it and then after a certain amount of success, you get a little cocky and think "I'm so good, I can afford to be a little sloppy." What happens after a few bad reviews? Hopefully we'll find out. Bottom line, if you love Anderson's stuff (and to really love him, you have to have loved the Life Aquatic, i know i know, but's a must) then go see it. Otherwise, skip it and go see Across The Universe. My friend Andy raves about that. i want to see that new Steve Carrell one, Dan In Real Life.
Now somehow, Owen Wilson's suicide attempt is tied into The Darjeeling Limited. Maybe he sensed that the movie wasn't as brilliant as say, The Royal Tenenbaums, and he decided to STAGE a distraction that would get people to see the movie for a different reason: to see how he seemed in the movie...to see if you can tell he's not ok. OR maybe he was already feeling depressed while making the movie and hoping that by keeping busy and doing something exciting with his friends, he'd snap out of it. Then once it was over maybe he realized he was back to square one and it just broke his heart even more. Which would be sad. Owen Wilson is a true American commodity: someone that makes us smile unexpectedly. I'd hate to lose that.

Song of the Day
This is a gentle reminder that the Eighties were pretty lame, on so many levels. I still like this song though and who can blame the budding video makers, the music video forefathers, for making such silly little films...

New King in Town?
Something unexpected happened today. Smitty, my younger and orange cat, attacked Boby, The King, by lunging at him and trying to get his teeth into Boby's flesh. Then when Boby tried to run away, Smitty went after him jumping on his back and biting his neck, viciously. Now, Boby has always held the top position in this household, he's older, he's grouchier. He's the ONLY one who attacks and he usually does it when he wants to sit or lie where Smitty is. Smitty isn't usually allowed on my bed alone (this is Boby's rule, not mine) but he is sometimes allowed to join Boby. Next thing I know, Smitty is on my bed: ALONE, what the...? This might all be explained by the bad time we had this morning. Smitty was meowing really loudly for me to get up and it was making me really mad so I throw a bottle of Tums at him from bed. I've never done this before and yes, it missed him. I yelled at him more than usual and then i was over it, back to loving Mommy mode. Could this have caused some kind of reactive aggression? Or did Smitty finally decide that, now that Boby is getting older (17 is my guess) that Smitty doesn't have to take his crap anymore? Time will tell. I will keep you posted on this developing news...
On a happier note, I received ONE of my new proton clock radios today. The home unit, not the satellite speaker one which is way late (more on that in a minute). This thing is huge, for a clock radio at least. It could definatly kick my old thrift shop clock radio's ass. So where oh where is the speaker unit? Finally got an email from the ebayer i bought it from:
Hi Sara,
Sincerely, I will try to keep the drama brief, bottom line you are getting your item.
I just wrapped 4 of the same radios to ship out tomorrow. The story is my family and I were living on a Property that my wife’s sister voluntarily foreclosed on due to an adjustable rate loan going south big time.
The bank came and tried to lock us out prematurely and we had to re-locate. No BS! I literally had to grab The radios in a frenzy, because it was just important to me to make good on all the items I had sold. If that Isn’t enough excuse, I got gas on my paypal debit card $10 worth, and they locked up $75 for 5 days that I needed For shipping. Your satisfaction and my standing in the ebay community is very important to me. Please accept my Humble apologies for the delay, because I understand when I’m on the buying side of an item and it hasn’t showed In a timely manner, I’m not pleased and become doubtful.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Spence
I told him i believed him and good luck and all of that, I need that speaker! So we'll see if ol Spence comes through.

The Life of Pi

People often ask me, Sar, how can I make my place as cool as yours? Really they are asking, "How can I do what you've done on such a short budget (actually most people openly cringe upon entering my domain, but I know it's just a cover-up..)
Allow me to let you in on a little secret....you know how everyone, perhaps even you, picks a couple of colors to decorate their say livingroom with and then they try desperately to stick to this dynamic duo of a color scheme. I have a novel idea for you that seems to work quite well for me. Instead of trying to pick just a few colors for a room, try to eliminate a few colors. For instance, purple is simply not allowed in my place. Blue has a very marginal place and orange would NEVER make it were it not so close to red and even so, poor orange is mostly always banned. Thus I am left with a wide array of colors to choose from, namely: red, green, black, pink, brown, white and sometimes yellow. You might think, that's too many, nothing will go with eachother! Not so homemaker, not so. Try it, ban the colors that make you sick and liberate yourself to the possibility of allowing all the REST of the colors to work for YOU.
Adopt a Sock Monkey
Here is a perfectly good Sock Monkey that no one seems to want. His foster parents say they picked him up at a second hand store. Poor fella. The people he is with now are just trying to make a buck off of him on ebay. That's sick, they don't even think of how that might make him feel. Didn't even give him a name. That'll be your job and one of the best parts of adding to your family.
Names are funny things. They seem to morph over time. Take for instance, my cats Boby and Smitty (pronounced 'schmidty'). Boby's name started off as Mr. Bobo Hooper which didnt last long and eventually became what it is today. There are shorter versions to each name: Bo and Smit or Mit, and then there are longer versions: Bobolinski or Bober, and Mitters or Mitt Romney (he hates that one). Any way you look at it, a name has to be flexible. Keep that in mind when choosing a name for your new Sock Monkey.

Song of the Day
Here's what I did last night, some drip paintings, not sure I feel about them, but you never know how a drip painting session is going to turn out...
The (hopefully) Best Clock Radio In The World
Ok, so I am an NPR freak, but it hardly comes in in my bedroom AND my clock radio is old and crappy, so I decided to invest in a high end clock radio by sangean/proton. I win one on ebay for 50 bucks (not bad i'm thinking to myself - they normally go for around $200!) well, not so fast speedracer...turns out what I bought was the SATELLITE speaker...for 50 bucks! So now I have to buy the freakin home unit for who knows how much and THEN I will have the best clock radio in the world (hopefully) that cost more than my stupid TV. I am not always as careful as I should be when buying on ebay. But I did just win this lovely little digital camera. STOLE it on ebay for $86 (including shipping) all because the auction ended on a saturday night. Pays to be lame, people.
By the way, did you know that if you don't have cable, satellite or HD tv (me), you will need to purchase a converter box in order to view ANYTHING? April 7, 2009 is the date the Senate Commerce Committee recommended for the end of analog television, when broadcasters will turn off their analog signals and transmit only digital ones. The benefit of the switch to all-digital broadcasting is that it will free up parts of the valuable broadcast spectrum for public safety communications (such as police, fire departments, and rescue squads). Also, some of the spectrum will be auctioned to wireless companies for the provision of advanced commercial wireless services (such as wireless broadband). I guess us basic tv people have to get used to it, just like us ny smokers had to get used to not smoking in bars.
FOTC
Ever hear of HBO's hilarious new show Flight of the Conchords? Jemaine Clement is my favorite...
This video always cracks me up. And I have finally learned how to add a video to my blog, yay! I also have a new flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/threecrows/

chapter one
Welcome to my new blog! I am Sara Pulver aka threecrowscawing. i will attempt to keep you posted on my art and ebay offerings, as well as find you interesting things to look at. this will be a work in progress as i figure out how to add things...so far i cant upload photos, hopefully that will change or this will be quite pointless. i've been working on some paintings this week, neil young, tom waits, johnny cash, trying to get their likenesses...not easy! but getting there. here's a bit of news as of late:
A catastrophic decline in world bumblebee populations has scientists worried that they are going extinct, and one shocked California scientist says that one bumblebee species on the US West Coast may already be gone.
Scientists and farmers warn that the extinction of the bumblebee will have catastrophic consequences for agriculture. Bumblebees are responsible for pollinating an astonishing 15% of US crops, including virtually all crops raised in greenhouses. These crops are worth $3 billion dollars a year, and include tomatoes, peppers and strawberries, among others.
Pretty scary stuff to add to the other crap that is happening in this world of ours.
